About the 2014 SUMMIT & AWARDS

The Midlands Mentoring Partnership’s (MMP) 5th Annual Youth Development Summit & Awards Luncheon is highly regarded by mentoring professionals and funders from across the midwest as a one-stop-shop for professional development.  This year’s summit was held on March 19, 2014 at the CenturyLink Center in downtown Omaha, with over 730 in attendance.  Midlands Mentoring Partnership was pleased to partner with the Buffett Early Childhood Institute , the Metro Omaha Educational Consortium (MOEC), and the Iowa Mentoring Partnership to host the summit.  The 2014 keynote speaker was Paul Tough, New York Times writer and best-selling author of How Children Succeed: Grit, Curiosity, and the Hidden Power of Character.

In How Children Succeed, Paul Tough argues that the qualities that contribute most to the success of youth have more to do with character: skills like perseverance, curiosity, conscientiousness, optimism, and self-control.

This provocative and profoundly hopeful book has the potential to change how we raise our children, how we run our schools, and how we construct our social safety net. It will not only inspire and engage readers, it will also change our understanding of childhood itself.

The summit also featured breakout sessions on the latest trends in mentoring and youth development, led by locally and nationally recognized experts.  The sessions were as follows:
