The Elements of Effective Practice for Mentoring™, Fourth Edition

September 2015 marked the much anticipated release of The Elements of Effective Practice for Mentoring™, Fourth Edition (EEP). A publication of MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership, the EEP details research-informed and practitioner-approved standards for creating and sustaining quality youth mentoring programs and consequently, impactful mentoring relationships.

There are six standards that are evidence-based and intended to be useful for all youth mentoring programs. The standards encompass the following areas; Recruitment, Screening, Training, Matching and Initiating, Monitoring and Support, and Closure. Each of the six standards include Benchmarks and Enhancements. Benchmarks are used to ensure the safety and effectiveness of mentoring relationships. Benchmarks are required practices to meet the standard. Enhancements are suggestions that may be promising, innovative, and useful for programs.

Midlands Mentoring Partnership hosts FREE quarterly trainings on The Elements of Effective Practice for Mentoring™. The next training class will be held on Wednesday, December 2nd. At the training, participants will get an in-depth look at the 4th edition of the research-informed guide to best practices, with the intent of providing information on how to remain safe and effective and how to produce positive outcomes for young people served by mentoring programs.
